Labour Force Survey October 2020

Unemployment in Calgary dropped 1.3 percentage points to 11.3 per cent and 17,000 jobs were added in October.

The numbers indicate continued recovery in the labour market following a 15.6 per cent unemployment rate, which the Calgary region reached in June at the height of the impact of the first wave of COVID-19.

Statistics Canada reported strong gains in both the Educational Services and Wholesale & Retail Trade sectors this month, adding 5,500 and 4,300 jobs, respectively. The Transportation & Warehousing sector added 3,600 jobs.
